Ian Douglas
Chief Executive Officer

Ian is a seasoned leader with over two decades of experience in the cable industry, including pioneering projects in Europe and spearheading international ventures. Through his leadership, these companies successfully delivered complex and innovative subsea cable projects around the world.

An engineer by profession, he has shown passion and commitment to delivering and maintaining transformative global infrastructure in the energy and communications sectors. His extensive career includes a decade-long tenure as CEO of Global Marine Group and he has also built long-lasting partnerships through a number of joint ventures across subsea telecommunications, offshore power and oil and gas industries.

Alongside his leadership roles, he has served on the boards of multiple prominent companies in the subsea cable and marine space , including CWind, HMN Tech, S.B. Submarine Systems, and N.T.T World Engineering Marine.

Trevor Nash
Chief Commercial Officer

Trevor has extensive experience in building and restructuring businesses across the US, Europe, Asia, and the Middle East. Originally a qualified Civil Engineer, he spent 21 years in investment banking (corporate finance/M&A), with the last 14 years focused on operational roles as CEO/COO.

He previously led teams at Goldman Sachs in Europe and Asia, and later headed Lazard’s Power & Energy Advisory practice in London before transitioning from banking to join the Clinton Climate Initiative.

For over a decade, Trevor has been engaged in various roles in developing clean energy projects and technologies. He remains active in the commercialization of emerging technologies that address the challenges of the energy transition.

Shaun Mercer
Chief Financial Officer

Shaun has more than 20 years of experience in senior finance leadership and investment related roles, with extensive exposure across manufacturing and industrial technology oriented businesses. 

Prior to XLCC, Shaun spent several years as Chief Financial Officer of Plastic Energy, an innovative global leader in the circular economy, completing multiple financing rounds. Before that, Shaun was a Managing Director at global investment firm, The Carlyle Group, where he was involved in a number of Carlyle’s most significant investments, including as a board director of several multi-billion global, private and listed businesses. Prior to joining Carlyle, Shaun was at Morgan Stanley, working in corporate finance and M&A.

Shaun received a B.A. honours in National Sciences from Cambridge University, where he was a Taylor Scholar.

Vegar Syrtveit Larsen
Chief Technology Officer

With an illustrious career spanning over two decades, Vegar is renowned for his technical mastery and leadership across various global industries.

His tenure as Vice President Industrial and General Manager of GRID & Turnkey and Offshore North America at Nexans saw him managing expansive industrial sites and leading over 1000 professionals across three continents. 

Vegar’s extensive experience with subsea high-voltage cable systems at Nexans has endowed him with unparalleled expertise in HDVC technology and the nuances of scaling high-impact technical projects worldwide.

Paul Dickson
Development Director

Paul brings over 34 years of experience in complex design, engineering and construction projects. His role at XLCC is to focus on building efficient manufacturing delivery linked to a digital strategy, combining construction and OEM equipment integration in a way not seen before in the manufacturing industry.

Paul joins XLCC from ISG where he spent over 12 years as a senior leader overseeing the delivery of multiple large-scale projects across data centres, life sciences and manufacturing sectors. Prior to this Paul directed mechanical, electrical and public health projects at Mace Major Projects Group.

George Eleftheriadis
Cable Factory Director

Georgios has over 15 years of rich experience in the industry, specialising in EHV underground cables and HV submarine cable manufacturing. He holds a Lean/Six Sigma Black Belt with deep knowledge in Integrated Process Management (IPM). These skills were essential to Georgios’ role at Hellenic Cables, where he oversaw business transformation and ever-rising operational standards.

Georgios has a Master of Science in Advanced Manufacturing Systems & Management, as well as a Master of Business Administration.

Alan Mathers
Business Operations Director

Alan is qualified as a Management Accountant and also a Treasury Accountant.  He has worked in professional services for 30 years including almost 20 years at Accenture where he was a Managing Director/Partner and then 8 years in Private Equity. Alan led a team of 1,700 people and has received multiple awards for inspirational leadership. 

Alan has extensive international experience and has worked on subsea pipeline projects in Africa, Europe and in the UK. This has included building and operating a pipe coating factory at a greenfield site in Nigeria. 

Mike Phillips
Commercial Finance Director

Mike has 20 years accounting experience across a diverse range of businesses and industries, most recently working on a major national infrastructure construction project and key roles within the UK electricity transmission owner.

He believes a focus on the controls environment and ensuring proportionality is a key enabler for businesses to move forward while mitigating risk.
