XLCC was founded in 2020 to address the rapidly growing demand for high-voltage direct current (HVDC) subsea cables—essential for connecting renewable energy projects and strengthening global power networks and a critical bottleneck in achieving global decarbonisation ambitions.
The idea originated with Simon Morrish, founder of Xlinks, who envisioned bringing clean power from Morocco to the UK. While technically viable, the biggest obstacle was the subsea cable supply chain. As Simon assembled a team for the Morocco-UK Power Project, it became clear that this supply issue was not just a challenge for Xlinks but a major barrier to the wider energy transition. This led to the creation of XLCC—a manufacturing and installation solution designed to produce HVDC cables at the scale needed to drive real change and enable the move to a low carbon economy. Today, Xlinks and XLCC are separate entities and strategic partners.
